He was awarded the Nelson Mandela Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for his doctorate. Her doctoral project explores the ethical issues related to the autonomy of adolescents to access sexual and reproductive health services in Colombia. His fields of research are also HIV and public health ethics. Julien is an editor for the Canadian Journal of Bioethics and is a paid member in ethics for the Ethics Committee for Research in Arts and Humanity (CERAH) of the University of Montreal.
